301 Redirect
It is a method of redirecting an old URL to a new location. 301 Redirect indicates that the address has moved permanently.

Anchor Text
Visible text in a hyperlink. For exampale:
< href="http://www.yourwebsitename.com/">Anchor Text< /a>

Backlink
Link pointing from a website/web page to another website/web page. Also known as In Bound Link (IBL).

Bot
A software program used by search engines to scan the web for indexing purpose. Also known as "Robot" and "Spider".

Cloaking
Technique used by search engine spider for showing a page as seen by the humans. A black hat SEO mainly adopted by spammers for ranking high.

Conversion
It refers to the success of a website in converting the site traffic into sales of the products and services. There are different tools to monitor the conversion of a site.

CPC
Cost Per Click. Rate of measuring the cost in paid advertising campaign.

CTA
Content Targeted Advertising. Targeting content pages with relevant PPC ads.

CTR
Click Through Rate. Method of measuring the success of paid advertising campaign which is the ratio of number of clicks per the number of time the ad was shown (impressions).

Do-Follow
Links that tell search engines to follow and index. Do-follow link help to share the PR juice.

Doorway Page
Also known as "Gateway Page" is a web page mainly designed to rank high for a specific keyword and drive the traffic to another page.

FFA
Free For All. This kind of sites are for link building and traffic generation purpose which consist huge lists of non-related links. Generally, FFA links are ignored and not given much importance by the search engines.

Keyword
The words that are typed while querying the search engine.

Keyword Stuffing
The practice of adding keywords on a page more than required. It is not a spam unless the keywords are maintained properly.

Link Farm
Group of interlinked websites aiming for increasing link popularity. Mostly, link farm sites is a program that links the websites with each other automatically.

Mirror
A mirror refers to a duplicate website commonly used to target various keywords.

No-Follow
Links that tell search engines not to follow and index. No-follow links do not get importance and share Google Page Rank.

PPC
Pay Per Click. PPC is an online advertising method where advertisers are charged only when their ads are clicked.

PR
PageRank. PR is a term used by Google to measure the popularity of a certain web page. PR ranges from 1 to 10. Higher the pagerank, higher the popularity is.

Robots.txt
A file that assists search engine spiders to determine which pages to crawl and which to not.

Search Engine
Shortly written as SE is a website having a large database of indexed sites to help users to find the resources what they are looking for.

SEM
Search Engine Marketing. The process of marketing a website through the combination of SEO and paid advertising in the search engine results page.

SEO
Search Engine Optimization. The process of optimizing or making a website search engine friendly in order to achieve higher rankings for selected keywords.

SERP
Search Engine Results Page. It refers to the pages displayed by search engine after a given query.

Spam
In SEO world, spam refers to the manipulation of a website to rank high violating the search engine's Terms of Service.
