"Blog" is a popular word in the world of internet which is short form of "Weblog". Blogs are online journal in which the entries are posted and displayed in reverse chronological order. The useless links and unrelated comments are considerd to be comment spam. These types of comments are posted automatically by the spambots crawling in the blogosphere. Comment spam can be controlled with the use of captcha and wordpress plugins like Akismet.

The first screen that you see after you login to your blogging account.
Captcha
The security feature which displays image (combination of letters and numbers) required by the user to type to complete the form submission process. It is used to minimize the spam comments and trackbacks.
Link Love
Linking to another blog on your own will because you loved it.
Niche
Niche refers to a specific topic of the blog.
Permalink
Permanent link. The unique URL of a single post in the blog. Useful when you have to link or to be linked to the single post rather than the recently updated page. Also, it is used to optimize the individual/single post for the search engines.
Photoblog
It refers to the blogs that contains photos. Mostly useful for photographers.
Ping
The free tool or service that notifies the major search engines that the content in your blog has been changed or updated. Also, when someone writes about your original post and provide a link to your post, through trackback or ping you are notified.
Plugins
Small files of code that adds new features and functionality.
Podcast
Also known as "Audioblog" that is a form of audio blogging. Information are posted in audio format that can be downloaded and played via iPod, mp3 player and computer.
Post
It refers to an individual article on a blog. To post is to write an article and publish it.
RSS Feed
Really Simple Syndication. Allows readers to subscribe for receiving the latest updates via feed reader or email.
Theme/Template
The layout and design of the blog. Different free and paid themes are available on the internet which can be further customized as you like.
Trackback/Pingback
A ping alert that notifies who had written has written about the original post.
Traffic
The number of visits a website receives in a day. Popular blogs get higher traffic than unpopular.
Widget
Feature of a blog to make the navigation process easier. In other words, widget is a piece of code that gets plugged with the coding of the blog to display links, photos, etc.
Wordpress
A content management system (CMS) that organizes and maintains the blog that can be hosted at wordpress.com or on your own web server.
